Bodega Don Juan del Agulia is located in the Sierra de Gredos, a natural park in the centre of Spain, north of Madrid. The vineyards are surrounded by Mediterranean forest: holm oaks, lavender, thyme. A mountainous area of granitic soils at over 1000 meters of altitude. The area is remote and almost unhabituated; most of the vineyards were planted more than 50 years ago. Winemaker Ruth de Andres teamed up with this small cooperative of only about 100 members, who all work in the vineyards. Marcial, the cellar master, and Celia, young winemaker from Madrid, keep the spirit and the long tradition of high elevation Garnacha of the Gredos.
